If you want to be a great marketer, you can't care about vanity.

Let’s consider Jenna Kutcher. Now, I’m a major fan of hers. She taught me how to use Pinterest for marketing. I love the Goal Digger Podcast. I'm a huge fan.

The reason why I preface this by saying I follow and I know about Jenna Kutcher is because generally I wouldn't talk about the body of a woman in the spotlight and as a leader, but I know that Jenna Kutcher’s body is a big part of her brand.

Body positivity played a big part in her rise to fame. She was super open about her body image. She's an Aerie ambassador. She went viral for a post with her husband where he has a six pack and she's curvy - that she posted again and again and again. And she also created a multi-million dollar marketing company in that body including really successful high converting Facebook ads.

Now over the past year, a new kind of vertical in her personal brand is talking about her personal health journey. She quit drinking, she's changed how she moves her body, and she changed how she fuels her body.

Again, it's really important to me that I say I am not saying that she was more successful, beautiful, powerful in one body or in another body. But again, I want to talk about marketing and vanity.

In some of her more recent content, Jenna Kutcher has even said that part of the reason why she made these changes was that she wasn't feeling good in the body that she was inhabiting previously.

So, I'm on Facebook the other day scrolling, and my Facebook feed is always full of Jenna Kutcher ads (because I bookmark ads that I think are good and so I’m served them more frequently). So the ad that came up is clearly one that she shot before she underwent this new health journey and I was just thinking “Damn, Jenna Kutcher is such a strong marketer. She's so goal oriented.”

I mean, I know for me, I’m sometimes shy about posting brand photos earlier in my career because my life has changed. So, she is really inspiring me. If she's saying in her current content “Look, I'm in a body that I feel more confident in now.” But she's going to keep running the ad that converts and I think that is so badass.

Because again, it goes back to the fact that nobody actually cares what your body looks like. They care if you can help them through the pain point in their business with your marketing and she knows that.

It served as a really powerful reminder for me.
